What is it? Ameliorate Smoothing Body Exfoliant was developed to exfoliate and soften the skin, smooth Keratosis Pilaris bumps and prevent ingrown hairs. It contains biodegradable Bamboo Granules and Alpha Hydroxy Therapy which physically and chemically exfoliate above and below the skin’s surface while the unique “LaH6 Skin Hydration Complex” combines with Shea and Cocoa Butters and Coconut Oil to moisturise for up to 8 hours.
Who is it for? The product range was devised for sufferers of Keratosis Pilaris (KP) but is also great for anyone who suffers from very dry skin or who wants to prepare skin for tanning.
(KP is caused by too much keratin [hair protein cells] in the outer layers of the skin. The skin then creates small plugs which block the hair follicle and give a goosebump or chicken skin type of appearance. These are most common on the backs of the upper arms and on the fronts of the thighs.)
How do you use it? Use the exfoliant 2 to 3 times a week. Massage it into DRY skin and wait a few minutes for it to work before getting into the shower or bath. This product does contain an Alpha Hydroxy Acid that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and increase possibility of sunburn, therefore, use a sunscreen afterwards.

Ameliorate Smoothing Body Exfoliant was created by Annette Luck who suffered with KP and had been unable to find a product that really worked; the range also includes body lotion and an exfoliating mitt. Up to 40% of the population have KP (including me) mainly on the backs of their arms and fronts of the thighs. I’ve used lots of different exfoliants to try and smooth the skin, from Elemis Frangipani Salt Glow to making my own with sugar and olive oil, but these didn’t have any effect on the KP even if they helped my dry skin and made me smell nice.
After a month of using this product, the skin on the back of my arms is considerably smoother, I would say by around 80%. The skin on the front of my thighs is being a bit more stubborn and is about 50% smoother. However, I have ordered the body lotion and will use the products in conjunction which I’m hoping will have an increased effect, but all in all the results have been fantastic and so much better than anything else I’ve used in the past.
