What is it? Super Retinol Ceramide-Boost Anti-Aging Face Serum from Beauty Pie, features a slow-release gentle encapsulated retinol complex to even skin tone and visibly diminish fine lines and wrinkles. The formula also contains a concentrated ceramide blend to help reduce the visible signs of aging; our old favourite Hyaluronic acid a moisture-magnet that helps keep skin dewy and hydrated; and lactic acid to gently resurface the skin.
Who is it for? All skin types. This is a much milder product than some other retinols out there, so is suitable for sensitive skin. Obviously, if you’re not sure about using a retinol then do a patch test. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding then check with your GP. If you want to regularly wax an area of skin, discontinue use for at least a week before waxing. Check for allergens in the ingredients list below.
How do you use it? This product is designed to be layered, so morning and evening after cleansing, toning and eye cream (if you use it), apply 1-2 pumps and then moisturise, include your neck and chest area. Obviously don’t forget your SPF over the top on a morning.
What’s the damage? Regular price £80 – Beauty Pie members pay £9.34 (50ml).
In previous blogs I have discussed why we should use a retinol and what the difference is between a retinol and a retinoid, but for anyone who doesn’t know:
Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A, the most well known being Retin-A which was introduced as an anti-acne treatment, but dermatologists noticed that it not only made acne-prone skin clearer but in many cases made complexions brighter, smoother and younger-looking. Retinol is the name given to an over-the-counter retinoid. Regular use can unclog your pores, boost collagen production, reduce collagen breakdown, speed up cell turnover, even out skin discolouration, normalise your skin’s barrier function and smooth your complexion. However, note that often your skin looks worse before it gets better as it gets used to the retinol.
Dermatologists consistently agree that the best skincare anyone can use is an SPF and the second best is a retinol. I’m currently using Lancaster SPF50 every morning, as retinol can make your skin more susceptible to sun damage.
Beauty Pie tested several retinol formulas from leading skincare labs and came up with a “Super Retinol” system with a 3% encapsulated retinol complex. Encapsulation protects the retinol from degradation, increases its stability, and improves delivery to the skin. Basically, there are miniature drops of retinol inside tiny bubbles that act as a sort of shield protecting your skin from the most irritating effects whilst still delivering skin-boosting properties. The encapsulation process means that the retinol is delivered slowly in small dosages, optimising the effects on the skin.
Beauty Pie recommend using twice a day but I currently only use it on an evening. My skin is used to using retinols but when I first started it was only twice a week and then I built up from there. Personally I feel that twice a day is too much for me.
I like this serum, it’s a nice consistency, not runny and thin. A little goes a long way, it does feel like a luxury product. Obviously as a Beauty Pie member I paid £9.34 for it, that’s why I like Beauty Pie, I wouldn’t have tried this serum at £80.
If you’re new to retinols, then this is a good product to start with. Actually, it’s a good product all round.
