The best way I’ve found to apply concealer.

I’ve always liked to use makeup brushes, it’s been my preference for as long as I can remember.  Lately though, I’ve been finding the application of concealer and powder under my eye is becoming more difficult using either brushes or my fingers.  As we age, the skin becomes thinner and the eye socket deepens as the bone around the under eye area shrinks.  So, I now only apply my concealer within the eye socket area, no longer can I get away with the deep triangles you see the 20something makeup artists doing.

Real Techniques Complexion and Powder Sponges

I decided to try the sponges to see if they produced a better result.  I got 2 complexion sponges and 1 powder sponge (Real Techniques) from Look Fantastic for £11.98, it was buy 2 get 1 free.  On a side note, I tend to get a lot of my makeup and skincare products from either Look Fantastic or Cult Beauty.

You can use the sponges damp or dry, I prefer them dry.  I used the complexion sponge with my current favourite concealer, BFF Eye by Trinny London, and it was really great.  I could get into the corners of my eyes and it was so easy to monitor the amount of product I was applying.  I also found the sponge to be great around the nasal area, actually they are good anywhere that’s normally difficult to get to.

I am equally as pleased with the powder sponge.  I don’t like a dry/matte look all over the face of an older woman, I think we need a little glow (or a lot if that’s your thing!).  However, saying that, I do need a little powder under my eyes and around the nose, but I don’t want it to be noticeable.  I like the Bye Bye Pores Powder by It Cosmetics as it’s very light and colourless.  It was so easy to get the right amount using the cosmetic sponge.

I still prefer my brushes to apply my foundation, just play with things and see what works best for you.

So basically, the message is, if you find that something isn’t working for you anymore, try something else.  There’s usually an alternative in the Beautysphere somewhere.  Definitely don’t just give up and live with something because that’s what you’ve always done.  It may seem so minor in the grand scheme of things, but if you feel good, you feel confident and that’s amazing.
