What are they? Spacemasks are eye masks which warm the eye area and thus alleviate strain after a day of screen staring, this in turn calms and relaxes the mind so you can really switch off. The totally safe heating process works when a thin layer of iron filings entwine with the oxygen molecules in the air. The masks contain jasmine in a very low concentration so you can enjoy the relaxing fragrance without any risk of skin irritation. The manufacturers say “We wanted to find a way to escape the madness of our hectic lifestyles and leave our Worldy problems behind. Space travel seemed a reasonable possibility – new horizons, a clean start, no social media … So we came up with a box. A box of spacemasks in fact. 5 perfectly formed pouches each containing a heavenly Spacemask – capable of whisking you away to a carefree world unpolluted by Earthly distractions”.
Who are they for? Whether you’ve had an intensive day at work on the computer or you just fancy some relaxing me time, these are for you. They prepare you for a good night’s sleep.
How do you use them? Open the star covered sachet and the Spacemask will activate when it comes in contact with oxygen in the air. Unfold the mask and gently apply over your eyes while fitting the loops around your ears. Then relax for 15 minutes.
What’s the damage? £15 for 5 masks
The beauty hall of Liberty London is one of my favourite places, I like the way there are tables with new and different products interspersed with the big names. When I was there a couple of weeks ago I picked up a pack of these Spacemasks, I’m a bit of a geek and anything with “space” in the title is fine by me. I was intrigued by the idea of a warming eye mask rather than a cooling mask which is what I’ve used in the past.
The iron filings in the masks are activated by oxygen, don’t worry about the iron filings feeling a bit weird, the masks are really comfortable. They are a good design with handy loops for round the ears to hold them in place, so you don’t have to worry about moving your head. With some masks I spend so much time trying not to move that I actually don’t relax and enjoy doing nothing for a few minutes. The mask heats up fairly quickly and it does get very warm, when you remove the mask the eye area is quite sweaty. The warm sensation mixed with the smell of Jasmine is extremely relaxing, you can feel tension and stress easing away; it also helps with circulation around the area, I mean who doesn’t want to use something to avoid puffiness and dark circles?
The first time I used the mask it was early evening and I hadn’t taken into account that I would just want to sleep afterwards, so next time I used one just before going to bed and it was lovely. It says use for 15 minutes but I left mine on for around 25 it was so relaxing. After a day staring at screens this mask is exactly what you need. The goal of the manufacturer was to create out of this world relaxation, well they’ve certainly done that.
