Vita Liberata’s organic Invisi Foaming Tan Water. My first go with a home tanning product.

What is it? Vita Liberata’s organic Invisi Foaming Tan Water is self-tanning mousse containing organic botanicals and natural extracts, including aloe vera, grape and raspberry seed extracts, and ginkgo biloba.  The proprietary “Advoganic Technology” claims to supercharge these organic ingredients for high performance results, anti-ageing benefits and protection against free radicals.

It’s clear as water and super-fast drying. The product is available in 3 shades: light; medium/dark and super dark. It contains technology to remove the pungent smell that tanning products can have and the lack of colour guide ensures there’s no risk of transfer onto towels or bedding.

Who is it for? Suitable for all skin types, obviously they recommend that everyone does a patch test 24 hours before using for the first time.  It’s marketed as, always organic, 100% clean, 100% vegan and 100% natural. Vita Liberata are a “non-toxic tanning brand free from parabens, perfume, alcohol and all chemicals of concern”

This product does not contain a sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn.  The full ingredients list is below if you want to check for anything you might be allergic to.

How do you use it?  Ensure skin is clean and exfoliated.  Do not moisturise or use moisturising shower lotions prior to application.  Use a tan mitt and with two to three pumps at a time, apply with circular movements. Use sparingly on hands, feet, knees, and elbows.   Allow at least 4 – 8 hours before showering off with water.

What’s the damage? £25

Score: 💋💋💋

Being very pale skinned, I am wary of using tanning products and ending up orange or mahogany.  I tend to stick to the body creams with a slight tint of tanning agent, such as Dove Summer Glow.  However, I saw the Invisi Foaming Tan Water in Boots on offer at £16 and for the purposes of my blog decided to give it a try before going on holiday.  I managed to make a mistake straight away and picked the wrong colour, I wanted light but I didn’t have my glasses on and didn’t notice the colour in tiny tiny writing, so please make sure you look closely and get the correct colour.  I ended up with medium/dark.

As I was going away to the sunshine I decided to risk it and the night before travelling I applied the product.  I didn’t use any moisturiser and made sure I exfoliated properly. I used a St Tropez tanning mitt and found that all in all the product was very easy to apply (you will need someone to help with your back).  Being a bit of an amateur I didn’t think I’d done my feet very evenly so went over some bits again with the mitt – big mistake. The colour started to develop after around an hour and a few hours after that I had a lovely colour all over, except for my feet which had some very dark patches where I’d gone over them twice – I think I’ve got the hang of it now though and next time will be better. Also, I hadn’t realised how much of the tanning product went through the mitt and ended up with dark patchy hands for a couple of days.  You really need to make sure you use a scrub to clean your hands afterwards and not just normal handwash.  The colour was darker than I would like for everyday summer use though and I will invest in the light shade next time I see it on offer.

I have white bedding and there was no colour residue on the sheets or pillowcases, it definitely dries quickly.

The colour lasted around five days despite frequent applications of sun cream and lots of showers.  It maybe wouldn’t have lasted so long if I’d used the pool and it was subject to chlorine, however, the pool was so cold there was absolutely no-one in it.  Actually, the colour lasted five days everywhere except my feet, where it lasted for a good 3 weeks despite using lots of scrubs!

If you’re used to using fake tans I think you would love this product.  I need a bit more practice.
